Timing Is Everything

This is a look at what my schedule looks like in food hours.
My typical work day - 9am to 5:30pm:

  • 7am - I get up, eat a high calorie breakfast like oatmeal with agave nectar and some fruit like raisins or banana mixed in, drink 8 ounces of orange juice , then relax with one cup of coffee. I try to do oatmeal every other day and then alternate between cereal and a yogurt parfait on the other days. This is where I get my fiber.
  • 11am - I make sure I take a 15 minute break to eat a snack like some nuts or fruit.
  • 3pm - It's lunch time! I take a 30 minute break and eat slowly. I will normally eat a salad, a sandwich, small low sodium soup, sushi with whole grain rice, etc. Lunch is when I try to eat some kind of healthy whole wheat or whole grain bread.
  • 7pm - Dinner is served. This is when I want my veggies the most. They are packed with nutrition and low in calorie. I will typically have a vegetarian meal like kale soup with mushrooms or maybe some spinach with whole grain garlic rice. Once or twice a week I will eat fish. Normally some salmon with broccoli or asparagus because I just love salmon.
When I am off work:

  • 8am to 9am - Breakfast, juice, and then only one cup of coffee. I use silk soy vanilla creamer because I am lactose intolerant and it is lower in calories and fat.
  • 12pm to 2pm - The time varies depending on if I am at home or out and about. If I am home I will normally eat an earlier lunch. If I am out (normally running errands and exercising in the park) I will eat a little later.
  • 1pm to 3pm - Snack time! I try to eat a snack about two hours after lunch.
  • 7pm - I will eat a low calorie dinner if I wasn't very active for the day like on rainy days.

I have found it to be much easier to eat on a schedule by having some kind of set schedule whether it be work, school, etc. I found it most difficult to make a food schedule on my days off. I have learned to plan ahead as much as possible. I plan all my meals the day before I have off and try to plan out my activities for the day and check the weather.
